Wimbledon
Wimbledom is a district in south-west London belonging to the London Borough of Merton. Its an affluent district famous for the All England Lawn Tennis Championships which takes place here every summer. During the summer, and especially during the Championships, it can be difficult to find accommodation in Wimbledon so it's a good idea to book your Wimbledon hotel well in advance.
The All England Lawn Tennis Championships, usually referred to simply as Wimbledon, takes place in June and is considered by many to be the most prestigious tennis tournament in the world. It is also the oldest one, dating back to 1877. Wimbledon is one of four Grand Slam tennis tournaments, the other three being French Open, US Open and Australian Open. Of these four, Wimbledon is the only one still played on grass, the game's original surface.
Wimbledon is a pedestrian friendly place and most places that tend to be of interest for visitors can be easily reached on foot. You can also catch a bus outside the shopping mall, right next to Wimbledon station. The main bus station is located on Sir Cyril Black Way, behind Morrisons supermarket.
